Winners on Squeaky Bum Sunday

As another season ends, it's time to give out the awards. So, here goes.

The Amy Winehouse Award: To Newcastle. Very much down in the dumps throughout much of the season, they finally strike form late to win enough matches and end the season with a little bit of respectability.

The Hillary Clinton Award: To Chelsea. Cannot seem be written off -- even with the Grim Reaper at Avram Grant's doorstep. Amazing.

The Anna Kournikova Award: To Arsenal. Breathtakingly beautiful to look at, but could not win a thing this season.

The Maria Sharapova Award: To Manchester United. Breathtakingly beautiful to look at, and capable of contending for any trophy.

The Madonna Ciccone Award: To Manchester City. Always re-inventing themselves with new owners, new managers and new controversies, but not necessarily a good thing.

The Mariah Carey Award: To Everton. Tough cookies, the players and manager of this team. Will be around to boss the Big Four for years to come.

The Paula Abdul Award: To Liverpool. Strange things have happened at the club, between the boardroom members, between the fans and owners, between the fans and managers, between the manager and owners, between the ... well, you get the point.

The Britney Spears Award: To Derby. Things just went from bad to worse to beyond the abyss. Poor kids. The players, we mean.

John Terry (Chelsea)

United took home the real thing, so Terry will have to be contented with our trophy: For pushing his men to the wire, dislocated elbow and all, when nobody would give them a chance the day Jose Mourinho left.

Steve Bennett (Manchester United?)

2007-08 champions: Man United*. The asterisk is a little taint on the Red Devils' season, no thanks to the referee. He did not give a clearcut Rio Ferdinand handball penalty - before the United spot-kick. That's a big what if...

Newcastle 2-0 Aston Villa
Bolton 2-0 Manchester City

"Dreaming to become a 'WAG' turns me beautiful"

STOMPer Wendy was flipping through the New Paper on Sunday (Jan 1) and the article "WAGs, talk to us" under Sun Sports caught her attention.

Although she says she is no WAG (referring to Wives and Girlfriends of sportsmen), she would like to share her story of a no-cost weight loss with fellow STOMPers.

This is her story.

About 6 months ago, I dreamt to be a WAG and that's when my life took a change.

I am not the type of girl who will hit the gym for a work out or neither do I like to exercise. The reason is simple, why would I want to spent hours out there sweating when I can cross my leg infront of the television enjoying my favorite caramel popcorn with extra added strawberry milk tea? That's the reason why I was weighing at 60kg at a height of 164CM. And I could only fit into size Large clothings.

I'll only start to panic and make resolutions each year before Chinese new year. Because I have been hearing the same old things from relatives every year the moment I step into their house - "Wow, you look FIT, haha!"

Excuse me, FIT? It simply means FAT to them I guess.

I've tried losing weight more times than I can count. Anything from Yo-Yo diet to low carbs diet. None works for me, because my determination usually lasts not more than one day.

But my life took a change 6 months ago. Which was during the S.League 2007 season. I was never a football fan and neither do I understand the game. I have to admit back then what got me interested in watching the game was because of the cute foreign players. (yeah, it is typical I know, but sometimes half the audience are filled with girls
cheering because of the same reason too I guess) So naturally, I dream of becoming a WAG.

I saw on magazines that most of the footballer's WAGs are shapely and have well-toned bodies.

So, I know the first thing I had to do was to shed those pounds away. It was definitely not easy because I had not put on my running shoes for a long time! I cut down my food intake and i try to do cardio twice a week. I shed off 3kg in the first month.

During the second month, I set even stricter rules for myself. I avoided practically any food you can name that has the word sugar. And a big No No for me to eat after 8pm. Initially avoiding those food was hard as they had been my favourite for the past 20 years. But I was quite lucky as I was able to adapt the change of lifestyle quite fast.

Wait. Did I mention I dreamt of becoming a WAG 6 months ago? Anyway, my mind no longer thinks about that anymore as I am very much enjoying the way my life is now. I enjoy watching a good football game now, but not because of the cute players. I like seeing the sportsmanship they share and the most important thing I have learnt from the players is the 'never give up EVEN till the last minute' attitude.

Till now, I have shed off 12KG in 6 months. I am a beautiful girl now enjoying eating healthily and enjoy doing sports 5 days a week.

Thanks to S.League! And thanks to the team which made me once dream of becoming a WAG. If not, I might still be holding my popcorn in front of the television now! HAHA!

A beautiful girl is not all about just having a pretty face and a good figure. You will be able to hear a voice deep inside of you, telling you beautiful means the natural way.
